A stunning display of the amazing local talent, creativity and hard work.

The Kenniff Country Quilters Exhibition opening was on the 3rd of June 2023 (Saturday) at 2:30pm and was a well-attended event. The exhibition was officially opened by John Ford, the president of the Mitchell on Maranoa Gallery. He gave an excellent speech about his experience as a judge for last year's "Art for Art's Sake" Exhibition and how he learned that it's not always about the biggest artwork or quilt. Instead, it's about the one that catches your eye and speaks to you. Excellent words to remember when placing your 'Viewer's Choice' vote for your favourite quilt at the library. John also brought along a beautiful handstitched pillowcase made by his grandma. It is nearly 100 years old and has the original paper template attached.

The exhibition was on display until the 15th of July 2023.

The Viewer's Choice Winners

Lesa Walker won the Open Section with her beautiful quilt, "Peacock Beauty". This stunning quit was her take on Anne Lawer's Peacock Flourish Panel Quilt from Grizzly Gulch Gallery. Lesa is a beginner patch worker and has been a member of the Kenniff Country Quilters group for approximately two years. This was her first year of displaying her quilts.

Gay Burey won the Challenge Section with her creative quilt, "Tulips". The Off-Centre Log Cabin blocks have been strategically pieced together to create the look of tulips, in three vibrant colours. Gay enjoys exploring different techniques and colour combinations in her patchwork, whilst tyring to enthuse others. Gay holds craft retreats at her patchwork shop, Springhill Country Craft Retreat. There are many therapeutic benefits in patchwork and it's a great source of inspiration for not only herself but others that come and share their work and ideas.
